🇪🇺🇱🇧 The EU’s new military mission in Lebanon is expected to have a permanent military component of around 100 personnel. Italy, France and Spain are set to provide the bulk of the force — which Paris and Rome are already competing to lead.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas was in Beirut on Thursday, where she said the new mission “will provide advice and assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces”.
During the visit, Kallas and EU Military Committee chair General Sean Clancy received a formal invitation from the Lebanese leaders authorising the EU to establish the mission. The letter, dated 5 October, was confirmed to Rapporteur by a military source.
