๐ง Cancer Took His Voice. Now He's Preparing to Sing on Stage
Konrad Zieliลski was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer at 17. A few years later, doctors had to remove his voice box.
Before his illness, Konrad played in a band. After surgery, he wanted to return to music. He completed a dissertation on bionic systems for voice synthesis and, in 2023, co-founded Uhura Bionics with engineer Marek Grzelec.
๐ก The company developed Whitney, an electronic voice box named after Whitney Houston. No surgery is needed to use it. According to its developers, unlike conventional devices that produce a flat, robotic voice, Whitney lets users vary their intonation, express emotion, and sing.
Zieliลski demonstrates the device himself, is taking singing lessons, and plans to sing with Whitney on stage in San Francisco on October 7 โฌ๏ธ
Whitney will cost $1,500. Uhura currently sells its products as wellness devices, but the company is seeking medical device status for them.
