GPT-6.5 Astra could be OpenAI’s next move 👀

Claude Opus 5.5 just landed and it’s already putting pressure on GPT-6 Astra.

Anthropic says Opus 5.5 matches its top-tier Fable 5.1 on many tasks while costing 40% less to run than Opus 5. On Anthropic’s published benchmarks, it also beats Astra on several coding and knowledge-work tests.

Now, reports are pointing to a possible new Astra-class update already in preparation.

- Could be GPT-6.1 Astra
- Could even jump to GPT-6.5
- Possible timing: DevDay or early October
- Goal: push beyond Opus 5.5 and stay ahead of Anthropic’s next models

OpenAI’s DevDay is happening September 29, with Sam Altman scheduled to deliver the opening keynote. OpenAI has not confirmed a GPT-6.1 or GPT-6.5 Astra.

But if the leak is real, Anthropic’s Opus 5.5 may have accelerated OpenAI’s next move.
