🇰🇪 Kenya confirms first Ebola case after patient travelled through DR Congo and Uganda undetected
A 40-year-old Kenyan businessman became Kenya’s first confirmed Ebola case after travelling across the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and into Kenya before he was diagnosed at a Nairobi hospital. He died on 5 October, two days after admission, and nearly 70 potential contacts have been placed under quarantine in Nairobi. Africa CDC said the man had lived in DR Congo for seven years, developed symptoms around 15 September, received treatment at facilities in Bondo and Kisangani without an Ebola test, then travelled through Beni, Kasindi, Kampala and Entebbe before flying to Nairobi on 3 October.
Africa CDC said the case exposed multiple missed opportunities to detect the infection during a major outbreak in DR Congo, where more than 4,000 people have died this year. Ugandan officials said his temperature was normal during airport screening before departure to Kenya.
