🇪🇹 Explosions heard in Addis Ababa after Ethiopia bans drone flights

Explosions were heard overnight in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, including near the military headquarters in the west of the city and in the southern Gotera area around 00:30 local time, according to residents and diplomatic sources. The blasts came hours after authorities banned drone flights over the capital, one week after fighting erupted in northern Ethiopia between the army and a new alliance of armed groups including the Tigray People's Liberation Front and Fano. A source linked to the opposition fighters told Reuters they were behind drone strikes. Separately, Ethiopia's foreign ministry said it was closing its embassy in Eritrea and expelling 10 Eritrean diplomats for involvement in activities that pose a direct threat to Ethiopia's national security, while Eritrea denied backing the new rebel alliance.
