A hotel check-in alert led police to an international fugitive in Forte dei Marmi
A routine hotel registration triggered an alert that led to the arrest of a man wanted for extradition to Kyrgyzstan.
Italian police say the 50-year-old, born in Russia and holding a Finnish passport, was arrested in the early hours of 7 October at an accommodation facility in Forte dei Marmi. He was the subject of a provisional arrest warrant in connection with an alleged financial fraud case in Kyrgyzstan.
The alert reached the local police station through Alloggiati Web, Italy’s system for reporting guests staying at accommodation facilities. Officers went to the property, located the man and confirmed his identity through further checks and police identification procedures.
Police cited a concrete risk that he might flee. He was taken to Lucca prison and placed at the disposal of the Florence Court of Appeal, which is responsible for the extradition proceedings.
The extradition decision is still pending. The case concerns an allegation; no finding of guilt has been reported.
