New York ISO just issued an early warning that we must alleviate the strain on our energy grid statewide.

Please do your part in keeping our power on by:

•Setting your AC to 78 degrees.

•Turning off lights and unplugging electronics you’re not using.

•Waiting until early morning or late at night to run appliances like dishwashers or laundry machines.

During a historic heatwave, AC will save lives — but only if we keep the grid stable enough for it to stay on.

Older adults are at greater risk for heat-related illness, especially during prolonged periods of extreme heat.

If you have an older loved one, friend, or neighbor, check in with them today. Make sure they're staying hydrated, spending time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, and know where to find the nearest cooling center.

During a heat wave, it's the little things that make a difference. Something as simple as adding frozen fruit to water can make it easier to stay hydrated throughout the day.
As part of our Heat Emergency Plan, NYC Health + Hospitals' COOL vans will be conducting wellness checks for older adults referred by @NYCAging to connect vulnerable New Yorkers with heat relief when needed.

Visit nyc.gov/beattheheat or call 311 to find a cooling center and learn how to stay safe in the heat.

New York City is preparing for one of the busiest holiday weekends in recent months, as thousands of New Yorkers and visitors gather to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks, and the FIFA World Cup.

While there are currently no specific or credible threats, everyone attending major events should expect an increased security presence, security screenings, and bag checks.

New Yorkers should also expect significant street closures, heavy traffic, and increased congestion around Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, the FDR Drive, the Brooklyn Bridge, the West Side Highway, and other event areas throughout the weekend.

We strongly encourage everyone to use public transportation, allow extra travel time, and check MTA.info and july4.events.nyc before traveling.

As our city is in the midst of a dangerous heat wave, we also encourage everyone to visit nyc.gov/beattheheat and make a heat plan before going outside, including identifying the nearest cooling center to your destination.

A little planning goes a long way. We look forward to celebrating safely with New Yorkers and visitors from around the world.

New York: it's hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool.

Set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you're not using, and unplug what you can.

Our City is doing its part too: maintaining the 78 degrees rule in our buildings, dimming/turning off our lights during peak electricity demand, asking private partners to do the same, and powering down non-essential equipment.

A stable grid means the AC stays on, and lives are saved. Let's ease demand — and get through the heat — together.

For decades, Bill Ritter has been a trusted presence in New Yorkers' homes, helping us make sense of the news that shape our city.

His courage in sharing his Alzheimer’s diagnosis will help countless families facing the same challenge feel less alone.

Wishing Bill, his loved ones, and everyone affected by Alzheimer's strength in the days ahead.

The world's best players spend months preparing for the World Cup — and so have we.

With the first World Cup match in the tri-state area kicking off tomorrow, I joined agency leaders at @nycemergencymgt headquarters to review the extensive planning and coordination underway across city government.

From @NYC_DOT and @NYCParks to @FDNY and @nycemergencymgt , agencies have been preparing for this tournament for months, and New York City is ready.

Throughout the tournament, city agencies will be working day in and day out to help make this event a success and showcase the very best of our city.

Be on the lookout for severe thunderstorms tonight across the city, including brief but heavy downpours and winds strong enough to down trees and power lines.

If storms hit, go inside, exercise caution while traveling, and stay out of basement apartments.

.@LindseyBoylan leads with courage—speaking truth, challenging power, and fighting for working people. That’s the leadership our city deserves—and the ally we need to win on affordability.

Now it’s our turn to take action in Chelsea, West Village, Hell’s Kitchen, Hudson Square, Garment & Flatiron districts.

Early voting for the Special Election for City Council District 3 runs now through Saturday, April 26. Election Day is Tuesday, April 28.

I’m proud to endorse @LindseyBoylan in the Special Election for City Council - District 3. Lindsey speaks hard truths, challenges power, and stands up for working people when it counts.

That’s the kind of leadership this moment demands.

In a few short months, @DianaforQueens built an incredible coalition and ran a movement campaign that earned nearly 75% of the vote last night.

I'm grateful that she will serve out my term in the Assembly, and hopefully many to come. Astoria is in good hands.
