This is pure madness โ a spider that throws its web like a net!
Found in eastern Australia and Tasmania, the ogre-faced spider (Deinopis subrufa) is a master hunter, thanks to its exceptional vision and a hunting tactic so unique, you won't find it in any other spider worldwide.
When night falls, this predator emerges from hiding and weaves a small square of sticky, elastic silk. Holding the web in its legs, it waits โ motionless โ until prey comes near. Then, in a split second, it lunges forward, flinging the net over its target.
Its victims? Just about any insect or arthropod, from ants to other spiders.
