Part of me seriously wonders if the current NFA situation right now is actually the biggest entrapment operation in US history. Entrapment might not be the proper legal term but you know what I mean.
Keep in mind, even in the ATF's guidance document I don't think it ever said buying and making those NFA items without going through the NFA process was legal per se, it just says the ATF is currently not enforcing the existing law on those items. The ATF is legally currently only actually blocked from enforcing those things against I believe it was PSA customers and GOA members, but beyond that I don't think so, they did that on their own and not under court order.
You can be damn sure the next democrat administration is going to on day one reverse all of these rule changes and then probably start going after them HARD, very likely even retroactive ones that are made/bought without the NFA process between now and then.
Now Kevin you made the point earlier about no ex post facto laws. Here's the thing though, it's not ex post facto. The ATF will not have said these things are legal and then said they're illegal, they just said at the current time they are not enforcing the law, not that those things are now legal. Of course under ideal circumstances, the law enforcing conduct not being enforced would be the same as being legal but not really. You can be sure these pharasaic legalists are going to use whatever avenue they can to go after you.
