Remember folks that the 2nd amendment wasn't some crazy novel idea at the time, really it was just a colonial era continuation of medieval British attitudes towards archery, the only difference was Americans never abandoned it while every other anglosphere country did.
They were required to own bows and arrows, and were mandated to practice with them on certain days, and many post-colonial era laws in this country did the same except with firearms. All we're demanding is to be allowed to keep and bear whatever arms we want, which is arguably more moderate than the originalist idea behind it, since we're not even asking to mandate ownership and regular practice.
