Twenty finds you quietly, almost without ceremony, like morning light slipping through a curtain before the room is ready for it. People will tell you that twenty is the age when you should begin to understand where life is taking you, as though growing older comes with a map folded neatly inside your hands. But, darling, you do not need to know every destination yet. You may wander. You may change your mind. You may take the road that bends a little farther than you expected, and still call it your own.
I hope this year leaves small, beautiful things along your way. A song that finds you at the right hour. A stranger‘s kindness you remember longer than expected. A quiet afternoon when the world asks nothing from you. I hope there are people who stay not because they must, but because your presence has become a place they are happy to return to. And whenever life feels too loud, I hope you find somewhere gentle enough to hear yourself again. There will be days when becoming twenty feels less like opening a new chapter and more like standing before a book whose ending you cannot see. Do not be frightened by the blank pages, dear. They are not empty because you have failed to fill them; they are empty because they belong to you. Write slowly. Cross things out. Begin another page when the first one no longer sounds like you. Some of the most beautiful parts of a life are written in handwriting we could never have predicted.
Happy twentieth, darling. May this year bring you closer to the things that make your heart feel awake, and may it teach you that growing does not always have to mean becoming harder. Keep some softness. Keep your curiosity. Keep looking at the world as though there is still something hidden inside it worth finding. You have twenty yeaars behind you, but an entire unwritten horizon ahead—and there is no need to hurry toward it.
