The Galata Tower is one of the most iconic landmarks of Istanbul, located on a high hill in the European part of the city, in the Galata district. Visible from many points across central Istanbul, the tower rises 67 meters tall, with a diameter of 9 meters, and stands about 140 meters above sea level.
Originally built around 1348 near the shores of the Bosphorus, it is considered one of the oldest towers in the world and has witnessed centuries of the city’s history.
