With a lot of discussion recently about balaclavas, you probably don’t know where the name originated.
The balaclava takes its name from the Battle of Balaclava, fought on 25 October 1854 during the Crimean War. British 🇬🇧 troops faced extreme cold near the Crimean town of Balaklava, so knitted woollen head coverings were sent to them to keep them warm. The term, originally “Balaclava helmet”, later stuck because of this association.
So, the balaclava is actually part of a very British tradition, and we have a long historical relationship with it.
