Do you know about Asifa Bano?
An 8 year old girl, taken from us before she had even completed the first decade of her life.
Abducted, sedated and held captive for days as 7 adult men raped her before brutally murdering her and disposing of her tiny body in the forest.
This is not some distant past but in our lifetimes. In 2018. The crimes against Asifa was enabled by occupation, police complicit and BJP members took to the streets not for justice for Asifa, but to protest for the perpetrators.
Asifa’s story is not the first nor the last, in India Occupied Kashmir, where rape is regularly used as a systemic weapon. Hindutva violence in occupied Kashmir that occupies children and women’s bodies to further its terror.
Another day. Another crime. This is the current reality of Jammu & Kashmir.
A land and a people the Ummah has forgotten but let today be the day we refuse, refuse to forget, to ignore, to stay silent any longer.
