On May 19, 1984, the USSR officially adopted the GMZ-3 “Granilnik” tracked mine-laying vehicle into service.
Built on the 2S3M Akatsiya chassis, the GMZ-3 was designed for rapid deployment of anti-tank minefields near enemy positions, including mines with both contact and non-contact fuzes. It could lay and camouflage mines in any weather, day or night, while automatically recording minefield coordinates and deployment data.
Produced from 1984 to 1997.
