🇮🇳 — Modernization of India’s T-72M1 “Ajeya” is ongoing. The pictures show the installation of an external commander’s terminal for the TIFCS fire-control system mounted on the outside of the turret. WTFFF?? I hope they realize that this display is literally a “commander killer”…
If the commander has to physically expose himself (even partially) to use or properly see that external display, it creates a few problems:
• Exposure to fire: Anything outside the turret is vulnerable. In combat, even small arms, shrapnel, or a nearby explosion can hit that area. If the commander needs to be near or interact with it, he becomes an easy target.
• Sniper/fragmentation risk: Tank commanders already operate close to hatches. Adding a reason to be higher or more exposed increases the chance of being hit.
• Damage to the system: External electronics can be knocked out quickly, leaving the commander without that added capability mid-fight.
