🇹🇷/ Turkey reports the successful completion of factory acceptance tests of the BATU engine with an output of 1,500 horsepower, developed for the ALTAY main battle tank.
• The ALTAY program has faced serious delays in serial production, mainly due to powerplant issues. Initially, prototypes used a German MTU 1,500 hp engine and RENK transmission, but in 2018 Germany imposed an embargo linked to Turkey’s involvement in the Syrian conflict, halting the project for several years.
• In 2021–2023, a temporary solution was adopted: the South Korean DV27K engine from HD Hyundai Infracore and a transmission from SNT Dynamics, whose integration required major modifications to the hull, cooling system, and vehicle balance.
• In parallel, BMC Power is developing a fully indigenous BATU engine (1,500 hp), which has reportedly passed acceptance tests, while qualification trials are expected in 2026.
