😵💫 TTFB: The Speed Metric Nobody Talks About (But Google Loves)
Everyone obsesses over PageSpeed scores.
"98/100! My site is fast!"
Then users complain it feels slow.
Why?
You're measuring the WRONG thing.
TTFB = Time To First Byte
It's the time between:
→ User clicks link
→ First byte of data arrives
This happens BEFORE your page even loads.
Average TTFB in 2026:
🐌 Cheap shared hosting: 800-1200ms
😐 Standard hosting: 200-400ms
⚡️ Good hosting: 50-150ms
🚀 WebHostMost: 30-50ms
Why does it matter?
Google includes TTFB in Core Web Vitals.
If your server responds slowly, no amount of "optimization" will fix it.
What affects TTFB:
❌ Server location (too far from users)
❌ Server overload (too many sites per machine)
❌ Slow DNS resolution
❌ No server-level cache
❌ Outdated web server software
How we get 30-50ms TTFB:
✅ LiteSpeed web servers (faster than Apache/Nginx)
✅ Cloudflare Enterprise DNS Anycast
✅ Server-level LSCache
✅ Optimized server configurations
✅ Load balancing across infrastructure
Quick test:
Open Chrome DevTools → Network tab
Refresh your site
Look at "Waiting (TTFB)" on the first request
If it's over 200ms → your host is the bottleneck.
Not your images. Not your plugins.
Your infrastructure.
Stay tuned! 🤓
