🌐 Web Development Tips for Beginners — Part 6

Once you can build basic websites, start thinking beyond "Does it work?"

A professional developer also asks:

"Is it secure, maintainable, accessible, fast, and easy to use?"

Here are some important tips to develop that mindset. 👇

1️⃣ Learn the Browser First

Before jumping into advanced frameworks, understand what the browser actually does.

Learn how:

HTML → DOM → CSS → JavaScript → Browser Rendering

Understanding the browser makes debugging much easier.

2️⃣ Understand the DOM

JavaScript interacts with webpages through the DOM.

Learn how to:

• Select elements

• Change content

• Change styles

• Create elements

• Remove elements

• Handle events

This foundation will also make learning React easier.

3️⃣ Don't Ignore Accessibility

A website should be usable by as many people as possible.

Learn to use:

• <button>

• <label>

• <nav>

• <main>

• <header>

• <footer>

instead of using generic elements for everything.

Also consider:

• Keyboard navigation

• Screen readers

• Focus states

• Form labels

• Alternative text

Accessibility isn't an optional decoration.

4️⃣ Learn Responsive Design Properly

Don't create separate websites for every screen size.

Learn techniques such as:

• Flexbox

• CSS Grid

• Media Queries

• Relative Units

• Responsive Images

Your layout should adapt naturally to different devices.

5️⃣ Understand State

As applications become interactive, you'll need to manage changing data.

For example:

• User logged in

• Cart updated

• Modal opened

• Task completed

• Theme changed

Learn the difference between:

• Local State

• Global State

• Server State

This becomes especially important when working with React.

6️⃣ Learn API Error Handling

Don't assume every request succeeds.

A better pattern is:

try {
const response = await fetch("/api/products");
if (!response.ok) {
throw new Error("Request failed");
}
const data = await response.json();
} catch (error) {
console.error(error);
}
