Coinbase shared its Bitcoin quantum plan. The custodian holds about 5% of all BTC and says work should start before a quantum computer can break today's signatures, since the migration will take years.
Its priorities: an address type that can swap signature schemes without a redesign, which BIP-360's P2MR or P2TRv2 could offer, plus a 1-of-2 bridge where the same coins are spendable with a classic key or a quantum-safe one. Coinbase is wary of stateful schemes like SHRINCS unless a stateless fallback exists, since reused state can let attackers forge signatures.
Still open: what happens to coins that never move. Coinbase wants that debated separately, so it does not hold up adding quantum-safe signatures.
