Anza set the Alpenglow mainnet launch for October 21 at about 14:50 UTC. Its Votor consensus replaces TowerBFT and cuts finality from about 12.8 seconds to roughly 150ms.
Validators will exchange votes directly instead of posting them on-chain, so reported TPS will drop: votes are about 63% of all Solana transactions today. Validators need Agave 4.3.0+ and at least 0.8 SOL in their vote account; Firedancer and Frankendancer, about 15.8% of stake, are not supported at launch. Alpenglow went live on testnet on September 24 and devnet on September 25.
The switch happens in a single slot on the running network, with no restart. Rotor, the planned replacement for Turbine block propagation, is not scheduled yet.
