The smallest unit of Bitcoin is called a Satoshi (Sats), named in honor of Satoshi Nakamoto.
But do you know what the smallest unit of Ethereum is?
The smallest unit of $ETH is called a Wei โ named after Wei Dai, a pioneer whose early ideas helped shape the foundations of modern crypto.
Crypto is full of interesting stories.
The early days of any startup are often marked by struggle โ
Ethereum was no exception.
Much of Ethereumโs growth and evolution โ and its continued dominance in smart contracts today โ can be traced back to one core principle: Innovation First.
In its early days, Ethereumโs founder, Vitalik Buterin, actively shared ideas through forums, blogs, and community discussions, inviting developers worldwide to experiment, build, and push boundaries.
This openness sparked a wave of creativity.
Developers, researchers, and builders came together to form one of the most powerful ecosystems in crypto โ from DeFi to NFTs and beyond.
The naming of Wei reflects that deeper history โ a quiet nod to those who laid the groundwork before Ethereum even existed.
