The Supreme Court of India dismissed a plea that sought to give the Delhi Police a "free hand" to manage student demonstrations and investigate cases registered during the protests.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant stressed the importance of protecting young citizens, noting that many of the protesters are young students whose futures and families must be kept in mind by the court.
