U.S. military personnel in Okinawa are under curfew following the murder of a local woman by a U.S. Marine.
During the "operational pause," personnel are prohibited from leaving bases or drinking alcohol.
On October 4, a 20-year-old Marine was arrested in Naha on suspicion of murdering and robbing a 39-year-old woman.
Her body was found in a hotel; surveillance footage identified the suspect.
Investigators allege he strangled her and stole her belongings; the suspect denies involvement. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiti demanded stricter discipline, and the U.S. Ambassador to Japan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a protest.
