On October 3, North Korea launched a medium-range ballistic missile with a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) from Wonsan under Kim Jong Un's supervision.

It flew ~1,000 km, striking a target in the Sea of Japan (43.607789, 138.013061).

A "wave-like" trajectory hindered tracking by Japanese and South Korean forces; Seoul initially estimated the range at 700 km.

The missile is likely derived from the Hwasong-16B.
