During Friday prayers, Khawarij terrorists carried out an attack on the mosque inside the old Police Lines compound. CCTV footage reportedly shows a black car carrying explosives being parked near the mosque before the blast, after which the attackers entered the mosque and opened fire on worshippers.

The blast and ensuing exchange of fire resulted in 23 fatalities, including 17 police personnel and 6 civilians, while more than 103 people were injured, including 73 police personnel and 30 civilians. All attackers were reportedly neutralized during the clearance operation.

Among those martyred were SP Traffic Akbar Shinwari and Dr. Israel Khan Orakzai, Chief of Liaquat Memorial Hospital.
