Straits = Empire
The British Empire became a global empire despite its relatively small population compared to the populations of the lands it colonized by controlling strategic maritime chokepoints: the Strait of Gibraltar, the Suez Canal, Bab al-Mandab, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Strait of Malacca.
The US established its empire through neocolonialism, maintaining control over these strategic waterways through proxy regimes that depend on Washington for their survival
That is why the battles for the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab are existential battles for the US as an empire
What’s the petrodollar if someone else controls the straits?!
