⚡️Palestinian Center for the Defense of Captives:
The death of administrative detainee Motaz Nizam al-Atrash, 21, inside Ofer Prison after nearly 11 months of detention without charge or trial requires an urgent investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Motaz al-Atrash entered Israeli occupation prisons as a 20-year-old young man and left them a martyr before any charge was brought against him or he was put on trial.
The death of a 21-year-old detainee inside prison raises serious questions about the conditions of his detention and what he was subjected to during the months preceding his death.
We hold the Israeli occupation army and Prison Service responsible for the death of Motaz al-Atrash and demand full disclosure of the circumstances of his death, his medical file, and the conditions of his detention.
The death of al-Atrash renews warnings about the danger facing thousands of Palestinian captives amid harsh detention conditions and continuing complaints of violations inside prisons.
Administrative detention kept Motaz al-Atrash behind bars for nearly 11 months based on what is called a “secret file,” without charge or trial.
The silence of international institutions regarding what is happening inside occupation prisons is no longer acceptable. What is required is an independent investigation and accountability for those responsible for violations against the captives.
We demand immediate international action to protect the captives and open the prisons to independent monitoring
