This is an interesting topic, and as somebody who has been in the NFT industry for almost half a decade now I have some insights that I want record; for my own reference, but also for those building communities and participating in the TON/Telegram industry. 🎧
I was sent this message by a holder who has assisted the community a lot. The post talks about holders being dissatisfied no matter what you do or say — an impossible problem to solve that most do not know how to deal with.
In general, people just want to be comforted with their investment. They want to be reassured and feel valid in their conviction, which is understandable since statistically almost every crypto/nft has ended up being a scam. Their concerns are valid and it's your job as a CEO to make sure your holders have a foundation of trust with you. Trust is earned through positive-sum, goodwill actions. It cannot be bought monetarily.
Crypto attracts the best and the worst. When you are growing a brand, your objective is to attract as many of the good kind while removing the bad, while also scaling the community so it can become one of the largest not only within crypto, but the wider world. Your culture and community should even triumph nationality; people should identify with you over anything else. Your creation should provide Ikigai for your holders; a japanese phrase which roughly translates to "A reason for being".
As the team you can: • Have regular streamlined communication that keeps people in the loop. • Have an equal amount of deliverables, targeting community objectives & business objectives (partnerships and integrations, mixed with community focused proliferation tasks). • Find ways to create financial opportunity for your holders, ensuring that this is merit based, the most hard working and passionate contributors from the community should be rewarded the most.
The community needs to feel like the team is working as hard as them, and the community also needs to be mirroring this effort if a strong team presents itself and shows good intention. Any ill will towards a hard working team should be stomped out. Before that step is taken, there are some strategies you can attempt to raise somebody's understanding and overall faith in the collection...this is more of a spiritual task: helping them realise they have agency over their own actions and future.
There are only 3 ways you can help a holder in crypto: • Help them understand — 99% of the value in crypto is cultural value, and price appreciation often follows cultural appreciation (price is a lagging indicator). • Bring them to reality — Ask them what the team or community could do to make them happy. They will almost always have no answer. • Motivate them to contribute — Sometimes seeing the effect of your own contributions can help contextualize why price appreciation happens in crypto and how, while also providing some form of self-actualization.
If after you have tried all of those and they are still skittish or constantly complaining there is no way they can be helped further. 😭
Most likely they are either: • Financially insecure and should not be trading speculative assets. • Low IQ and/or EQ.
You cannot change these facts, at most you can stop the toxicity from spreading to others. People like this are a poison and must be purged by the community itself.
The cold hard truth is that every collection is at war with each other whether we want it to be that way or not. There is a limited pool of money and an increasing number of brands to invest in...we are competing in a hypercapitalistic environment, only the strongest will survive. When you are at war, you do not want weak men spreading fear to other soldiers and ruining morale; one bad apple can rot and poison an entire batch. Communities must learn to organize themselves.
Do you want to win? Then everybody in the community needs to have what it takes. There can be zero weak links. 💪
I've been taking some calls with some prolific builders in the TON ecosystem. There's so many talented builders here that execute fast and have great strategies to support brands that are new to the space.
I've also been advising them on strategies that can give "real utility" to stickers as part of their products.
