At the World Decolonization Forum, Dr. Esra Albayrak, daughter of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, called for decolonizing the west, saying that the world is too heavily influenced by Western ideas, history, education, media, and technology.
She advocated for giving greater recognition to ideas and values from other civilizations, particulary Islamic and African ones.
She also no longer wants the centers of knowledge to be based in “Paris, London, New York, and Amsterdam,” and says “the world now needs new centers, in Istanbul…Cairo, and Gaza.”
