On Sunday, 18 October, the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin 2026 closes with its Festival Closing & Award Ceremony

Doors open at 18:30, followed by the Award Ceremony for the Short Film Competition at 19:30. Afterwards, the documentary Don’t Ask Me If I Killed by Helena Maksyom will be screened, followed by a Q&A with director Helena Maksyom and producer Adrian Pîrvu.

The film follows Ukrainian documentary filmmaker Helena Maksyom, who puts down her camera to pick up a rifle — and later both. Over more than a thousand days of war, she documents the moral ordeal of ordinary people forced to kill and the struggle to preserve humanity as violence becomes part of everyday life.
