📈 “India Nears 40 Million Tons of Urea Consumption”
✅ Urea consumption in India has followed a steadily rising trajectory over the past seven years. The figure, which stood at around 30 million tons in 2017, has reached over 37 million tons in 2025.
This trend shows that despite government policies aimed at optimizing fertilizer use, strong agricultural demand remains the main driver of urea consumption in the country.
Population growth, the increasing need for grain production, and government subsidy programs are among the most important factors behind this growth. In particular, the dominant role of crops such as wheat and rice in India’s food basket has made urea an irreplaceable input in the country’s agriculture.
Analysts predict that even with the introduction of modern agricultural technologies, India’s urea consumption will remain high, keeping the country as one of the largest urea markets in the world.
