Upcoming PhD Defense: Udmurt Analytic Past Tenses by Mari Saraheimo ✨

On December 20, 2025, Mari Saraheimo will defend her doctoral dissertation at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Arts. The dissertation, titled "Encoding perspectives - Temporal, modal and intersubjective functions of Udmurt analytic past tenses," explores the complex linguistic functions within the Udmurt language.

The public examination will begin at 12:00 at Porthania, PIII (Yliopistonkatu 3), the livestream will be available here. Professor Ksenia Shagal (PhD) from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München will serve as the opponent, with Svetlana Edygarova acting as the custos.
