The British Government has paid for 1500 hijabs to be given to women and children crossing the channel a recent Freedom of Information request showed.
A Home Office spokesperson said it had a legal duty to provide basic clothing, including cultural and religious items, under the Short-term Holding Facility Rules:
'All arrivals receive a basic dry clothing pack where required. The items available form part of standard welfare arrangements.'
