Andy Burnham has 'done a shift' at Sainsbury's with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and then announced the company will provide 10,000 new apprenticeships.

Lord Sainsbury contributed significant funding (including a notable £1 million donation cited in political influence reports) to the Labour Friends of Israel, which works within the British Labour Party to shape Middle East policy.

Sainsbury is one of the largest single political donors to 'centre-left' parties but withdrew his support when Jeremy Corbyn was in charge of Labour.

He also gave Andy Burnham over 500k to help fund his 'office costs' as he prepared to become PM.
