The European Union wants to create its own version of Starlink so as not to depend on American satellite systems

The IRIS² secure communications project is scheduled to be deployed by 2029. At the same time, the EU intends to create a satellite-based orbital reconnaissance system that will allow for frequent monitoring of the Earth’s surface.

The reason is concern that the U.S. might redirect its military resources to the Asia-Pacific region, leaving Europe without its previous level of support.
