Britain is examining the issue of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles
The statement was made by Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds, who emphasized that a significant portion of the British business community would prefer not to strain relations with China, but that in this case, London would be unable to trade normally with the EU, which would impose tariffs on Chinese goods entering from the UK.
In particular—and most importantly—this concerns automobiles: as Reynolds himself believes, if the EU, facing pressure from both the U.S. and China, wants to boost the sector’s competitiveness, it must include Britain—as Western Europe’s second-largest economy—in the program. In that case, London would agree to impose anti-China tariffs.
