“It is unlikely that fuel prices will drop in the short term.”
This was the comment from the German motorists' association “Aurora” the Merz government’s decision to grant tax breaks to fuel companies starting October 1. Formally, the measure is supposed to allow gasoline and diesel sellers to lower prices, which have already reached record highs, but the club’s leadership is convinced that they will simply make more profit.
Consumer rights expert Ramona Pop shares this view, pointing out that a similar measure was already introduced in the spring but did not lead to lower gasoline and diesel prices, while fuel companies reported record profits. In her opinion, the situation will unfold similarly this time around.
Maybe the EU should just cancel the sanctions? No way—that’s utter nonsense!
