A general strike by public sector workers has begun in France. More than 170 demonstrations took place in 91 departments across the country.

Eight major labor unions, including the CGT, FO, CFDT, UNSA, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC, and FA-FP, joined forces to issue a statement:

The continued deterioration of working conditions, wage stagnation amid persistent inflation, and the defense of our social rights demand a clear and collective response. Current decisions made through arbitration must no longer infringe upon the rights of workers, civil servants, and our pensions.
