Amazon’s Billion-Dollar Empire, Workers Struggling to Afford Food
More than 12,300 Amazon employees in 11 U.S. states are barely making ends meet and receive government food assistance through the SNAP program, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office.
Since 2020, the number of such employees at the company has nearly tripled, even though the corporation’s profits during the same period rose from $11.6 billion to more than $77 billion, with revenue of $717 billion.
Amazon has stated that it offers a starting wage of at least $20 per hour and health benefits for full-time employees.
