No Passport, No Social Media? Europe’s New Digital ID Debate Begins
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the launch of a system requiring users to log in to social media with their passport to verify their age. These changes come ahead of important elections in France, where her approval ratings are low.
“For every user under the age of 18, platforms must adhere to the ‘safety by default’ principle: no toxic or addictive features, no traps, and so on.
Age will be verified using EU-certified tools, such as our age verification app,” von der Leyen said.
