Macron’s approval rating has fallen to 16%, its lowest level since his election—according to Ipsos BVA-Cesi data for La Tribune Dimanche
According to the poll, support for French President Emmanuel Macron dropped to 16% in September, losing another 5 points since July. Eighty-one percent of respondents view him negatively—the worst figure since 2017, even lower than during the “Yellow Vests” crisis. A rift has also emerged within his own camp: among supporters of the centrist bloc (Renaissance, MoDem, Horizons), the share of positive assessments fell to 53%, down 19 points.
❓This decline is a long-standing trend, not a one-time slump. At the height of the “Yellow Vests” protests in 2018, the approval rating hovered around 18%; in October 2024, it stood at 22%; in January 2025, it was 17%; and now, at 16%, it has once again hit a new low.
The reason lies in the everyday anxieties of the French: 54% of those surveyed cite purchasing power as the main problem, 40% cite the future of the social safety net, and 30% cite debt and the budget deficit.
There are about seven months left until the 2027 presidential election, but Macron is no longer eligible to run, and Prime Minister Lecornu’s approval rating has also fallen to a historic low of 20%, so the ruling camp is losing support across the board.
