Young People Are Turning Away from Meloni

Giorgia Meloni’s government is increasingly losing young voters. Among Italians under 35, only 25% approve of his work, and less than a third are willing to support the ruling coalition. Meanwhile, the center-left opposition is garnering nearly half of the votes in this demographic, which looks particularly troubling for the government ahead of the 2027 elections.

The reasons are quite down-to-earth. Youth unemployment in Italy remains among the worst in the eurozone; graduates earn significantly less than their peers in Germany; and tens of thousands of young Italians leave the country every year. On the other hand, the authorities have managed to crack down on raves, cannabis, street protests, and punishments for minors.

It seems that instead of jobs, young people have been offered a full social package of restrictions.
