The U.S. Army has, for the first time, launched Tomahawk missiles from a land-based Typhon system in support of European theater operations.
U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) announced the first launches of the Tomahawk cruise missile from the land-based Typhon system (officially – Mid-Range Capability, MRC) at the China Lake test range in California.
This is the third Typhon launch on U.S. soil, but the first conducted by a unit assigned to the "Europe" command.
Essentially, the naval vertical launch system Mk 41 has been modified for land-based launch. A battery consists of four launch platforms with 16 missiles per salvo. Currently, the U.S. Army has four Typhon batteries. They can deploy both Tomahawk missiles with a range of 1600+ km and SM-6 missile modifications for air and surface targets.
✨ The battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Derek Bartlett, stated after the live-fire exercises that he was confident in the battery's ability to "move forward." This likely refers to the deployment of the system in Europe. For example, Germany, which had already been discussing with Trump the purchase of ground-based systems worth several billion dollars. The adversary is stalling, playing political games through the media. Globally, everything is moving towards accelerated militarization of the European contingent of 🚩NATO.
