Inflation in Germany reached 3.3% year-on-year in September, up from 2.9% in August – the highest level since December 2023. This was driven by rising fuel prices due to the war in the Middle East: gasoline and diesel prices increased by 37%, and fuel oil prices by 75%.
The head of the statistics office, Ruth Brand, confirmed the dominant influence of oil product prices. In stores, egg prices rose by 15%, and fresh vegetables by 12%.
