A main gas pipeline, "Central Asia - Center," exploded in the Penza region.
On October 13, a high-pressure gas pipeline ruptured in the area near the village of Volchkovo, Belinsky district. After the explosion, a powerful flare-up began, with a flame column reaching 70 meters.
The damaged section has been shut off. A fire also broke out in the dry grass in the area of the accident. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were no fatalities or injuries. 34 specialists and 12 pieces of equipment are working at the scene.
The gas pipeline is operated by the company "Gazprom Transgaz Saratov." It is part of the multi-strand "Central Asia - Center" system, which is approximately 5,000 km long and was built to transport gas from the Central Asian republics to the central regions of Russia. Currently, the system is also used to supply Russian gas to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has cited a violation of the technological process as the preliminary cause of the incident.
The scale of the accident is significant: it is not a local distribution gas pipeline that has been damaged, but a section of a major main system. The consequences for gas transportation will depend on the nature of the damage, the repair time, and the ability to redistribute flows through other lines.
