It appears that the Americans didn't even speak directly to Zelensky, but rather conveyed the instructions through European and other intermediaries.

For example, Zelensky stated that he discussed the initiative with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Carney, the President of Finland, Mr. Stubb, and the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Rutte.

Now, he claims that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have received all the necessary orders in connection with the announced energy truce.

Furthermore, the fact that the Americans didn't communicate anything directly to Zelensky is confirmed by a statement from Ukrainian authorities, which says that Kiev "is awaiting details of the negotiations between the United States and Russia, and the fulfillment of the agreements announced by Trump."
