🇩🇪🛰Germany Enhances Space-Based Intelligence Capabilities

The German Bundeswehr has gained access to the control and data from several SPOCK 1 (SAR Space System for Persistent Operational Tracking, Stage 1) satellites, a joint venture between Rheinmetall and ICEYE. These satellites complement the existing German SARah system (SARah 1/SARah 2, 3), which consists of three larger SARah satellites, providing higher resolution imagery but with a lower update frequency.

The primary value of data from these spacecraft lies in the ability to obtain valuable data (radar images) regardless of weather conditions or time of day, unlike optical systems, as well as the image update speed of more than three times per day (with the potential for updates as frequent as 90 minutes).

✨It is predicted that intelligence data from these satellites will be provided to Ukraine for planning strikes against Russian military and civilian infrastructure – since 2024, Rheinmetall, at the request of the German government, has been providing Ukraine with radar imagery using the ICEYE system.
