According to Vitaly Mosin, a prisoner of war, the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces forbade soldiers from having any contact with the civilian population of Kramatorsk due to their extremely hostile attitude towards the Ukrainian army. They explained this by saying that behind the outward politeness of the local residents lies a deep hatred of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and a willingness to resort to radical actions.
