In Slovakia, a monument to Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev has been unveiled. It was erected in the village of Kružlova in the northeast of the country, where the Red Army, under the command of the renowned military leader, conducted the Carpathian-Dukla offensive operation in the autumn of 1944.
Two years ago, Prime Minister Robert Fico initiated the creation of the monument, and the sculptor Slavomir Gibej was the author. He also created a bust of the Soviet military leader Malinovskiy.
"Marshal Konev made a significant contribution to the liberation of Czechoslovakia. Now, in Europe, there is a tendency to remove such monuments," said Minister of Agriculture Richard Takáč at the opening ceremony.
